If you are not moderating comments on your blog then you must start doing it because you are responsible for the words of others.

Blog owners should be aware of the cyber law. It is understood that those who write in a blog are liable for the content they have written but do you know that the blog owners are also responsible for the comments written on their blog.

You can be liable if the comments on your posts include the followings:

  • Vulgar words
  • Offensive comments
  • If it reveals someone else’s trade secrets
  • Defame other’s good reputation
  • Encourage harassment

However, it totally depends upon laws of your country. There are situations also where bloggers get protection. So it is always good to be aware of the Law that is prevalent in your country.

Let’s share

If you know about cases where bloggers can be liable, list them here.

Thanks for sharing this information, I do have my blog however I have no idea about this that a blogger is also responsible for the comments. I will take care of this in future and if I get some more information in this regard will definitely share it with others.

im not sure what countries that applies to but if someone said i made an offensive comment or defamed someone, i would definitely get a first ammendment lawyer to argue my case for me. someone who knows the laws of the freedom of speech. there are some things you can get in trouble for, like a trade secret, but if you dont work for the company anymore, then its more of a case that the company can keep you tied up in legal preceedings until you have no money to keep up or something. you cant post anything about a case that is open until the case is closed and then it is no longer protected. i forgot the term they used with me on that one, but yeah there are certain laws that protect people but there are other laws that protect the rest of us. but i guess it depends on the country ;)

Though I find it useless “Blogs are suppose to be referred as Freedom of speech ” and mild vulgarity in the comment box as an opinion is justified..
Though breaking a law is more like hitting your foot with an axe…so..be it.!! :|
